Ann McLane Kuster and Carolyn Maloney win their primaries!
Last Tuesday, Ann McLane Kuster won a resounding victory in the Democratic primary for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. Annie was a tireless campaigner with impressive grassroots support. She was behind in early polls, but on Tuesday she won an impressive 71% of the votes! Now she will face the district’s former member of Congress, Charlie Bass, in the general election. He was defeated in 2006, but he clearly senses an opportunity to get this seat back. Bass was a strong supporter of the invasion of Iraq. Annie, on the other hand, has been outspoken in her criticism of the way both the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been conducted. As we continue to debate our involvement in both countries, it is critical that we support candidates like Annie who will ask tough questions and push for an end to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Help Annie in the general election by donating here.
Carolyn Maloney has been a champion for women since she first joined Congress in 1992, “the Year of the Woman.” She has been a leader in women's equality, global women's rights, and many other issues that impact women. She has worked to provide paid family leave to federal workers and to expand the Family and Medical Leave Act. She has also successfully secured funding to assist the women of Afghanistan. Maloney decisively defeated her opponent who had the strong backing of the financial sector. In this strongly Democratic district, Maloney is expected to hold her seat, now that she has triumphed in the primary.
