Terri Sewell | AL-07

Terri Sewell is bright, talented, trailblazer running for an open Congressional seat in Alabama’s 7th district.

Terri was the first African-American valedictorian of Selma High School. She went on to graduate with honors from Princeton University (one year after First Lady Michelle Obama). She received her Masters degree from Oxford University and her law degree from Harvard University (one year after President Obama). In New York City she worked as a securities lawyer, so she has a deep understanding of the workings of our financial system and how to reform it. Upon returning to Alabama, Terri continued to practice law. One of her focuses is educational finance; she represents many of Alabama’s historically black colleges. The 7th district has some of the poorest counties in the nation, and Terri has pledged to work for economic development and job creation. Terri has been completely engaged in every community she’s been a part of but her roots are in Alabama and she says, “I’ve been inspired by President Obama’s call to action … to become more involved in our communities as well as our country.” WAND Distinguishing Points: We believe her commitment to improving her community and expanding the opportunities available to its people would make her an ideal member of Congress. The seat: Alabama’s 7th district includes Birmingham, Selma, Tuscaloosa, and sparsely populated rural areas. There are 4 candidates in the primary and Sewell has substantially outfundraised them in quarter after quarter. She’ll have to use this advantage to continue to build her name ID. Two of her opponents are already well known in the district.

Post Election Update: Terri Sewell won her race!
