Robin Carnahan | MO-Sen
Carnahan is running for retiring Senator Kit Bond’s seat in Missouri.
She currently serves as Missouri’s Secretary of State, where has focused on protecting consumers, cracking down on financial fraud, cutting costs and red-tape for businesses, and ensuring fair elections. She also continues to manage her family’s 900 acre farm.
Carnahan is a member of one of the most respected families in Missouri politics. Her mother was the state’s first U.S. Senator and her father served as Governor, and was running for the US Senate when he was killed in an air accident; his wife took that seat as he won posthumously.
WAND distinguishing points: Carnahan pledges to fight for Missourians, not special interests and says on her questionnaire, “I am strongly in favor of restoring accountability and responsibility to all aspects of the federal budget -- and spending by the Pentagon should be no exception. No-bid contracts and earmarks for defense contractors waste taxpayers’ money and undermine our national security.”
The seat: Carnahan is not expected to face serious opposition in the primary race, but Republicans will fight hard to keep this seat, and Congressman Roy Blunt, her challenger, has access to deep fundraising pockets. Right now polling has the two locked in a dead heat and Carnahan is the only person in the race with positive favorables, but she will need at least $15 million to finish out the campaign.
Post Election Update: Robin Carnahan lost her race.
